Information about LGA - Coastal Issues Special Interest Group
Mission
Statement
The LGA Coastal SIG champions the collective
interests of coastal, estuarine and maritime communities by
increasing awareness and debate on environmental, economic and
social issues at all levels in relation to the coast. We have 57 member councils from around the English
coastline. We are co-secretariat for
the Coastal Communities APPG, chaired by Sally-Ann Hart MP, which
gives us a direct line to raise key coastal and emerging issues
facing local areas and councils up to government. National agencies and government organisations ask
SIG to feed into their workstreams and to provide joint responses
that reflect the needs of our unique coastal communities. We also
have Working Groups for specific issues such as Coastal Adaptation,
Coastal Landfill and Coastal Water Quality amongst others which
have their own work plans to champion these important
issues.
